Busy Day For The Creek
Thu. May 6th 2010

Thursday proved to be a challenging day for the members of New Creek VFD. Beginning at 3:46 am, members were alerted for a mutual aid EMS call to Burlington. Prior to response, an ambulance from 44 responded and placed New Creek in service. Next, at 5:37 am Residential Box 33-1 was sounded for a house fire on Keys Street in Keyser. Engine/Tanker 38 was due, and responded with 3. Members assisted on the fire which unfortunately took the life of the occupant. The next call was at 11:09 am, an EMS call on Rockland Farm Road. Unfortunately like many other volunteer departments, available members were scarce at the time of this incident. Keyser EMS was alerted for mutual aid, and BLS response 38 responded driver only. Luckily the caller only needed assistance and was not injured.

12:44 pm was the next call, a direct phone call was made to the department for a special request for assistance. BLS 38-70 transported a chest pains patient. After a few hour break, the next round began. At 15:42 pm, Rescue 38-1 was sounded for a multi vehicle accident on Pine Swamp Road, alerting Station 38, Squad 23, and Ambulance 57. While still on scene, Rescue 38-2 was sounded for another vehicle accident on Hooker Hollow Road. Station 38 and Squad 23 were alerted for the incident. Tower 38 was able to clear the accident on Pine Swamp Road and respond to the 2nd accident. The scene on Pine Swamp was turned over to OEM1, who was also on scene. Due to both New Creek ambulances being committed to the Pine Swamp incident, and no other ambulances were alerted, Tower 38 requested the next due ambulance to be alerted, bringing BLS 44-70 (Burlington). Tower 38 arrived on scene to find 2 vehicles involved, in a near head on collision. Crews were able to obtain 2 signed refusals. Squad 23 was used for traffic control on the incident, until they received a 1st due MVA, which they were then released. Shortly after all units had returned to the station and the paperwork had begun, Rescue 38-7 was sounded for a 2 vehicle accident on Rt 93 at Walkers Ridge. Station 38, Squad 200 (Maysville) and Grant County Ambulance was alerted. Crews arrived to find 2 vehicles involved, head on collision.
